Removal of the natural lens of an eye for permanent treatment of cataract eye problems is known as cataract surgery. One of most popular surgical procedures used that are used in developed national, for the treatment of cataract is Phacoemulsification. The Phacoemulsification is extremely demanded in different developed countries such as United States of America (USA) and United Kingdom (UK).

By using machine-aided with the ultrasonic handpiece, the cataract is treated by effectively emulsifying the material of natural lens of the eye in the Phacoemulsification. The fluid of eye is replaced with irrigation of balanced salt solution.

By the process of replacing the emulsified liquid of natural eye with balanced salt solutions, the anterior chamber is maintained in the most standardized manner. In addition to this, the balance salt solution is highly effective in cooling the handpiece with a titanium or steel tip.

Other popular surgical methods for treatment of cataract are Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) and Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE). In the Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) surgical procedures, the posterior capsule is left intact while effectively removing almost the entire natural lens of the eye, for the purpose of allowing implantation of an intraocular lens.

The cost of Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) is greater than Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) and it involves large incision and stitches. It is usually recommended for extremely hard cataract and in those situations where generally Phacoemulsification cannot be used.

A modified version of Extracapsular Cataract Extraction is Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery. In addition to this, other surgical procedures used for the treatment of cataract treatment is Intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE).  This surgical procedure involves removal of the lens and surrounding parts in one piece. After all the surgical procedures mentioned above, the natural lens of an eye is replaced by intraocular lenses.
